Two festivals of light will be shedding a different light on Germany's capital in October: The Lichterfest and the Festival of Lights.

Is it possible for things to get more magical? That’s the question that will be asked again this year when the 2014 Festival of Lights and the 2014 “Berlin illuminated” festival put Berlin under their spell. One thing’s clear, however: this is one of the most spectacular events in October and people will be amazed and astounded at the sight at least as much, if not more than last year. Both events are completely free and have cast their spell on two million people each year.

The Festival of Lights takes place from 10–19 October, while “Berlin illuminated” kicks off already on 2 October. The grand opening celebration will take place on 10 October 2014 at Marlene-Dietrich-Platz near Potsdamer Platz.
The eponymous film star would certainly have enjoyed the spectacular light creations that can be seen this year at more than seventy structures across the city. 2014 also marks the twentieth anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Berlin and Beijing. “Berlin illuminated” will reflect this anniversary this year and focus on Chinese artistry with lighting. Numerous Chinese artists are coming to Berlin to present their ideas and shed a new light on Berlin.
